Washing your pup can be a chore…. rarely will ‘Ozzy’ come running to you once he sees the water running in the bath tub. Here are a few bathing tips from Veterinarian Dr. Lisa Lippman, the owner of several Insta-famous pups, that are sure to keep your pup healthy and happy.
Per Dr. Lippman, ’Not bathing your dog often, is a myth. As long as you are using the proper shampoo and rinsing all of the soap off, washing your dog 1-2 times a week is completely healthy. To avoid ear infections, it is important to make sure that you do not let water or shampoo enter your dog’s ears. An easy way to make sure that this does not happen is with one hand, close the ear flap and hold it in place and with the other hand, gently wave a stream of water over the ear to remove any dirt. Have a small towel nearby and immediately pat the ear area dry. Repeat with the other ear. Using a shampoo specifically for pets will reduce eye irritations or sting skin abrasions. Make sure you completely rinse the shampoo off of the hair and the skin. Lisa recommends 'If you are uncertain if all the shampoo is rinsed off, rinse it off again'.
